2009 AFM Races 1 & 2: Buttonwillow 3/21-22, Infineon 4/25-26
We started the AFM season with a 3rd place at Buttonwillow but soon found that although there was much more to performance to teased out of our 1098 R, it wouldn’t come easy. After another 3rd at Infineon with 2nd place wrenched from our grasp in the very last corner, we knew we had to find out more about setting up our motorcycle from CRST: Catalyst Reaction Suspension Tuning. We spent a solid day of testing and tuning and were excited with what we found: here is slideshow of our progress. We were eager to try the new set-up at Infineon where we would also be privileged to ride with Rich Oliver for the first time on a road track but unfortunately, our gearbox failed us (for the second time) after only a few laps! We hope to make it to AFM Round 3 next weekend before we take a break to prepare for Ironman Austria.
2009 Triathlon Races 1-2: Presidio 10k 3/29, Granite Bay Duathlon 4/18
Sherwick started the year on the right foot with an age-group win and master’s national title at the “Presidio 10” foot race in San Francisco which took part along sections of the famous Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon run course. Jami joined forces in the Granite Bay Duathlon with a solid 2nd place overall and an age-group win to accompany Sherwick’s 2nd place in the men’s age division. Both of us were pleased with improved times over 2008 as well as consistent splits between the two run legs.
2009 WSMC Races 1 & 3: Willow Springs 1/17-18, WSMC 3/14-15
We ventured to southern California to kick off 2009 at the urging of our friend Jeff Tigert to race at the classic Willow Springs Raceway, also known as the “fastest track in the west”. We weren’t disappointed as we consistently saw speeds close to 170mph on the straights and 160mph in the corners! New skills were tested, new friends were made and even some hardware (of the trophy kind) was collected!
